What is awareness or mindfulness?
It is the ability to be aware of your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and actions in the present moment, in other words, in the here-and-now.
This means you don’t judge yourself or others and accept your experience of the here and now completely, without any judgment.
Examples of this would be, being aware of what is mulling in your mind at the present moment, wherever you are sitting, standing, or lying down.
An example of this is to be aware of the sounds around you, and what you feel in your hands (for instance, a cup of coffee – feel the cup, its texture, its gloss, its heat, the smells).
Feel your heart beating.
Do I feel happy, sad, angry, alone, excited, lost, anxious, depressed, helpless, powerless, or bored? – And there are many more emotions.
Awareness wants to teach us to be 100% present in our own lives.
How many times do we drive our cars, and when we arrive at our destination, we have no idea what route we took? I did not notice any trees, flowers, or people along the way.
Why is awareness important?
Because the acceptance of ourselves and the path we take in life largely determines our happiness.
It is therefore important to, for example, keep my temper in check. I need to act with understanding and self-respect.
To lead a truly happy life, I need to deal with all kinds of stress, disappointments, and emotional and often physical pain.
It is very important to know myself and to be aware of my own self-judgment as well as my judgment towards others which can often overwhelm my emotions.
A wise mind is one that can make sound decisions and incorporate good judgment, especially when you experience intense emotions.
This is the time to analyze and prioritize your thoughts and feelings in order to enable yourself to make more balanced and positive decisions.
It helps to create 3 columns:
– The first column is your feelings and thoughts
– The second is the crisis it creates
– And the third is, what would a better solution be?
You then discover that to judge does not work and you need to have patience. Self-acceptance becomes important, and self-confidence is a requirement.
My additional advice is:
– Understand your expectations
– Picture the “worst case scenario” in your mind
– Learn from your mistakes
– Be passionate and give to others unconditionally
– Appreciate the small things in life
– Visualize your ultimate goal
– Be grateful
Think about this; If you can accept that every moment of every day is a new beginning, just imagine what a big change this could bring to your life and to the lives of others?
